We had some fun with this fishing activity. I tied a magnet onto a string and then onto a dowel. The magnetic objects were placed into the water one by one. My daughter observed that the clothespin was the only one to float.
After a few turns, I added some rocks to the bottom of the container to make the fishing a little more challenging.
Here are the rocks and magnetic objects we used.
We dried things off and put it on the shelf ready for next time.

That is interesting twist on Sink or Float AND magnetic activity!
What a terrific idea!!!
Cute! We'll have to try this!
Hello there,
I'd just like to say that you have inspired me SO much, i found your blog about a week ago. I have a 17.5 month old and have been trying to implement montessori into our house since she was an infant. I am also pregnant with our 2nd daughter due in a few weeks. I have started setting up activites like your ones and have been having a ball. How often do you think I should do activites with my daughter throughout the day?
What a great job you're doing spreading Montessori to other parents and families! Please visit our store and blog (www.montessoriprintshop.com and take advantage of our FREE monthly Montessori materials. We love to share Montessori too and hope you'll join us. All the best.
I love the water aspect to this fishing activity. I recently created something similar with magnets (see here: http://countingcoconuts.blogspot.com/2010/03/counting-felt-fish.html), but I'll be sure to recreate what you've done here as I KNOW he'll love the water. :)
Warmly,
Mari-Ann

Thanks for your comments, we've been having fun with the activity all week, especially my 2 yr old. Grace- I always had one time of day that I worked with my girls on activities, for us right now it is after rest time but last year we did morning time. Then I always had a few (two or three) things out that they were familiar with for them to do independently.
Great, thanks :)
I have just started offering an activity after her nap in the afternoons, her favorite has to be the water activities, it hasn't taken her long to work out the sponge one. Thank you for all your wonderful ideas, I LOVE your blog, keep up the awsome stuff.
My girls would love this!! I'm also going to set up a baby doll washing station for them! : )
Hello!
I have added this to my Pinterest for future reference. Let me know if that is not okay! Great idea!!!! Thanks. :)
