Toddler and Up Play Mat

I made this mat for my toddler age daughter (although my preschooler loves it too). I keep it rolled up on a play shelf and the figures go in a basket next to it. When she plays, she likes to show me the animals so I name them and say what the animal likes to do. As with the Ocean Life Mat, it is the same canvas material and fabric paint.

I brushed most of the fabric paint on with a regular small paintbrush. I do like how the paint can be applied with the bottle and left to dry, creating a texture for feeling. The apples were a big hit because we have both apples and deer in our backyard.

I really like this idea! I think I am going to have to do one for my girl. Though all our animal models are out of scale Her sheep is as big as her cow! Her cheeta is larger than the elephant! Oh well. Thanks. always love your idea.

I love this idea and really want to do it. I think I may have to an African safari theme though because those are the only animals we have at the moment! (How will I fit the shark in?)

I tried this and it was hard. You did and excellent job with the artwork.. my paint was really runny and took forever to dry out, did i do something wrong? But besides all that, your mat was a wonderful idea. I did it for my son to play with his G.I. Joes..

Sorry to hear it wasn't a success. Sounds like either the paint or the fabric. I used reg. fabric paint from Walmart (the fabric markers didn't show up at all) and canvas fabric- which is thicker and stiffer.
